WELCOME TO YEAR 12 MEDIA ARTS
What’s this unit about?
Unit 4 is about completing and refining the media product you started in Unit 3 and presenting it to your chosen audience. You will polish your editing, sound and visuals, respond to feedback and prepare your work for screening, publication or posting. You will also explore the relationship between media and audiences, looking at who holds power, the role of regulation and ethics, and how technology changes media use. This unit combines independent production work with discussion of real media issues and is assessed through an agency and control task and your final media product with a written or oral justification.
What’s this unit about?
Unit 3 focuses on how stories are told in film, television, games and other media, and why they affect audiences. You will look at how codes, conventions, story structures and production choices create meaning, and how culture and society influence them. Alongside this, you will develop your own media product from concept to early production, creating plans like storyboards and scripts to show your ideas. This unit mixes analysis with hands-on work and is assessed through a narrative and ideology task and a media production design plan.

ASSESSMENTS
In VCE Media, your results come from three parts. School-assessed Coursework (SACs) are tasks you complete during Units 3 and 4 that assess your understanding of theory and your progress in production. The School-assessed Task (SAT) is your major media product, developed in Unit 3 and completed in Unit 4, along with supporting documentation. The end-of-year exam tests content from both units, including narrative, media production, and agency and control. Your SACs, SAT, and exam are all combined to give your final study score.
