The Dare to Dream Big campaign invites Year 9–10 Media Arts students to envision the dynamic and evolving careers that emerge from engaging with media production and storytelling.
Media Arts is central to how we communicate, entertain, and shape culture in today’s world. Through media practices such as scripting, filming, editing, and designing, students learn how to construct meaning, influence audiences, and critically interpret the media that surrounds them (Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority, 2025).
This campaign empowers students to see Media Arts not just as a subject, but as a launchpad into industries such as film, animation, game design, social media, journalism, and advertising. By developing skills in media technologies, narrative construction, and production design, students gain the creative and technical capacity to tell compelling stories and contribute meaningfully to contemporary media landscapes (Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority, 2025).
The campaign includes a series of visually impactful posters paired with career-focused leaflets designed to ignite curiosity and connect classroom learning to real-world media pathways. It positions the Media Arts classroom as a creative incubator for the screen professionals, digital creators, and media innovators of tomorrow.
The 'Dare to Dream Big' campaign has been designed as an ongoing series, with each poster and supporting material spotlighting a different exciting subject and innovative career path.
For example, within Media Arts, Visual Arts, and Visual Communication Design, future posters could explore careers within animation, game design, fashion technology, advertising, digital storytelling, UX design, and more, ensuring students see the full scope of where the creative industries could take them.
The primary audience for this campaign is Year 9 - 10 students who are about to make their elective VCE subject choices. At this stage, students are starting to think about their future pathways, yet many may not fully understand the real-world value of studying Media Arts at VCE level.
The purpose of this campaign is to challenge common misconceptions about Media Arts and inspire both students and parents to view the subject as a powerful and credible career pathway into contemporary media industries.
By linking Media Arts to rapidly growing fields such as film, television, digital content creation, game design, social media production, and advertising, the campaign highlights the significance of media production, storytelling, and screen-based communication in shaping how we experience the world. It emphasises that studying Media Arts is not only about story telling, it is about developing media literacy, critical analysis, and production skills (Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority, 2025), all of which are essential in an increasingly media-saturated society.
This campaign taps into students' media interests and aspirations, guiding them in making informed elective choices by demonstrating how mastering media codes, conventions, technologies, and audience engagement strategies can lead to purposeful and innovative career futures (Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority, 2025).

'DARE TO DREAM BIG' Curriculum Alignment 2.0
The campaign is strategically designed to capture the attention of Year 9–10 students through a bold, energetic, and dynamic visual approach.
The leaflet was intentionally constructed for visual and conceptual impact, using a range of media codes to engage a youth audience accustomed to dynamic, fast-paced content.
Design decisions such as bold, sans-serif typography, a high-contrast colour palette, and layered layout structures reflect the aesthetics of digital media platforms frequently used by teens.
The use of composition and spatial hierarchy directs attention to the campaign's central hook, Dare to Dream Big, positioning it as a call to action.
These visual elements work in tandem with strategic framing and graphic elements to amplify the campaign's aspirational tone, capturing student attention while promoting Media Arts as an exciting and future-focused subject.
The messaging and representational wording choices within the leaflet were carefully constructed to support specific audience decoding. The goal was to adopt a tone that was both genuine, and youth orientated.
The language is aspirational yet accessible, designed to resonate with students’ identities and career aspirations.
Through inclusive visual cues and media representations of creative roles (such as digital content creators, editors, and motion designers), the leaflet positions Media Arts as a legitimate and empowering career pathway.
Furthermore, by aligning the tone and format with contemporary media culture, the campaign anticipates a preferred reading where students view Media Arts not only as relevant but as vital to their future potential. This encourages active engagement and informed decision-making regarding subject selection and career exploration.
The future of this campaign could hold exciting potential for growth and expansion, offering new opportunities to reach and inspire even more students.
In the coming phases, the campaign could evolve by expanding the range of subjects and career pathways.
Additionally, integrating digital platforms or mobile applications would enhance engagement by providing interactive content like virtual industry tours, workshops, and career day events with professionals, making the campaign more dynamic and accessible.
Collaboration with industry experts would deepen students’ understanding of various career paths and provide hands-on experiences, mentorship, and real-world insights into the skills needed to succeed in these fields.
